About Me

I have 24 years tutoring experience in both school-based and private settings working with children and adolescents some of whom have complex social/emotional issues, learning challenges and developmental disorders.
  In southern California, I worked with teen mothers both in and out of the prison system; in volunteer outreach programs, I  tutored at-risk youths from Crenshaw, Ventura and Watts.  After graduating from UCLA with honors in 1996, I returned to northern California and founded Learning with Lindsay.  As the proprietor of Learning with Lindsay, my clientele consists of elementary, middle and high school students.   I have worked with over 1200 students from 34 schools on the Peninsula and have consistently guided them toward improved test scores and higher grades.  

As a Burlingame native, I attended Franklin Elementary, Burlingame Intermediate and Burlingame High School.  I have a Bachelor of Arts in World Arts and Cultures with an emphasis in art history from the University of California, Los Angeles.  I have specialized training in the Lindamood-Bell method for reading comprehension and phonics and in the Princeton Review  strategies for SAT preparation.  In May 2010, I completed my Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology in Expressive Arts Therapy at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco.

I work with students with a spectrum of educational needs, including auditory processing weaknesses, attention deficit disorders, Asperger’s syndrome, and social/emotional issues.  As a member of the North County School Crisis Intervention Team in Burlingame, I helped to devise strategies for crisis prevention and intervention for at-risk teens.  My experience includes presentations of SAT test-taking strategies and tools for academic success to the Burlingame High School Parents' Group and to the Aragon Asian Parents' Group.  Upon parent request, I advocate for students’ needs by composing letters requesting educational service accommodations, drafting letters of recommendation and attending parent/teacher conferences and Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings.

I am a strong believer that art is a powerful tool to enhance and support learning.  With this in mind, I founded and currently facilitate Artz Groupz, arts-oriented peer support groups which support in the following areas: coping with academic stress, quelling anxiety, developing healthy decision-making skills and navigating peer and family relationships.
